Letter from Cevin - June 2019
I hope you had a nice Memorial Day weekend, the calm before the storm. I’m sure that, like me, you’re all set for BookExpo and the New York Rights Fair. I hope to see you at the Javits this week.
Several people have asked me how my visit to the Jerusalem Book Forum went. It was my first time there, and I quite enjoyed it. The new format works well, with an impressive conference programming lineup.
Looking forward, here’s what I’m excited about in June.
Milestone. Star Watch is celebrating its 5th anniversary this year. PW was curious to know where the previous Star Watch winners are now. Take a look.
The deadline to nominate someone (or yourself) for the award—and a chance to go to Frankfurt on an all-expenses-paid trip, including an all-access Business Club pass—is June 14, 2019. Go here: www.publishersweekly.com/starwatch19
D.C. I haven’t been down to Washington, D.C. in quite a while, so I’m particularly upbeat about attending ALA and then Children’s Institute in Pittsburgh later in June.
Carla Hayden, the Librarian of Congress, will be speaking at ALA, and I plan to visit the Library of Congress as well as some museums.
PW’s ALA booth #1433 features the “Wall of ARCs”—the galley giveaways that librarians love. It is still open, if you want to participate. Email me or call me, 212-377-5703.
Pittsburgh. The Children’s Institute Preview issue is open till June 4, 2019, if you want to be included. Let us know.
Meantime, PW will be exhibiting with the Fanatic at BookCon this coming weekend. The Fanatic is a terrific new (free) PW newsletter edited by Calvin Reid. If you haven’t seen or read it yet, I urge you to sign up for the latest in comics, graphics novel and pop culture.
Whether you’re coming to BookExpo or BookCon or both, stop by the PW BookExpo/BookCon booth #1213 to say hello.
The New York Rights Fair is on the same show floor, so be sure to check out the panels there too!
You can access the PW BookExpo Show Daily digitally—you’ll get a notice in your email—as well as by picking up a copy on your way into the Javits this week.
See you soon!
Best wishes,
Cevin Bryerman
